If the key isn't coded properly, the immobilizer won't recognize it and will shut off the fuel delivery system. I believe the flashing green key indicates the key isn't recognized. If the light flashes really quickly when you insert a key that means that the car is rejecting the ID code of your key. That just means that the key isn't programmed into the ECU for the car, and the car won't let you start it with that key.
